How to Reassemble a 2x2x2 Rubik's Cube

So your Rubik's 2x2x2 fell apart. Don't go to the garbage can! Use this guide and you will be back to solving it in no time.

There are 5 different kinds of pieces, so here are the names I will use to describe them later:

Rounded Edge Piece

Core Piece

Squared Edge Piece

2 circular core pieces and 1 squared core piece (take note of the difference)

Heart Shaped Edge Piece

The Core

Step 1: Organize the Pieces

Same first step as in all my guides. This makes finding the piece you need faster and easier later. Here is a picture of how I usually do this:

From top to bottom: Corners, Rounded edge pieces, heart shaped edge piece, squared edge pieces, the core, squared core pieces, circular cor pieces

This is a good time to take an inventory. Check your numbers against mine: Corners: 8 Core: 1   Circular core pieces: 3   Squared core pieces: 3 Rounded edge pieces: 9   Squared edge pieces: 2   Heart shaped piece: 1

Step 2: Positioning Selected corner

This is the step where you actually start puting the puzzle together. Start by picking up any corner. On one of the non-stickered sides there should be a hole. Compare it with this picture:

Once you have found that, take your corner and place it like this:

Keep this corner in that position on the table. Note: This corner is now called your selected corner.

Step 3: Building the Last Layer

Now that you have a selected corner, look at the color on top. In my case, it is red. Find all the corners with the opposite of that color on them. I would be looking for all the orange corners.

Take these 4 corners, line up the colors and place them face down on the table like you are building the last layer of the cube. After doing this, turn it around until the selected corner can be called the UFR corner.

Now take one of the 3 circular core pieces and place it, points down, into the center of the last layer.

Next, take 4 rounded edge pieces and place them around the core piece to look like this:

Currently not in your cube, you should have: Corners: 4 Core: 1   Circular core pieces: 2   Squared core pieces: 3 Rounded edge pieces: 5   Squared edge pieces: 2   Heart shaped piece: 1

Step 4: Begin First Layer

In this step we will start the first layer, but we will not be adding any corners yet. Start by taking 3 rounded edge pieces and 1 squared edge pieces. Place them into the cube as in the picture below. Make sure the squared edge piece goes below the place for your selected corner. Look at the picture below to know what to do:

Now that these are in place, take the core and notice there are 3 squared "arms" of it. Place the 3 squared core pieces on to these arms. Now there is a specific way to put the core into the cube. Here is a picture I hope will help:

Not in your cube you should have: Corners: 4 Core: 0   Circular core pieces: 0   Squared core pieces: 0 Rounded edge pieces: 2   Squared edge pieces: 1   Heart shaped piece

Step 5: Finishing the Build

Finally, the last step. You are almost done fixing your 2x2x2!

Find the UBR corner, put the heart shaped piece on the front inside panel with the heart out, and a rounded edge piece on the left panel. Then slide the corner onto cube.

Now find the UBL corner, put a rounded edge piece on the front inside panel, and slide it onto the cube.

Put the last squared edge piece on the right inside panel of the UFL corner and slide it into place. You now have room for one more corner. You cube should look like this:

The last corner is the hardest corner to get in. Just remember, you wont need any pliers or anything to help you. You only need your fingers.Slide your selected corner onto the cube using the squared edge pieces as guides. All you have left to do is get it over the heart shaped edge piece. You want to push on the lower left corner of the front sticker of yor selected corner. You will need to push extremly hard. It takes a lot of force to get it over. Please note: I have never broken any pieces of my or anyone elses 2x2's when fixing them. This does not mean you dont have a chance to, but it the chance is slim, so push hard!!

Your cube is now back together and it will work well. Have fun and enjoy!
